KS3 is an important stage in your child's French journey.
It is where students move beyond simply learning vocabulary and begin to use French more independently — building the knowledge, confidence and communication skills they need for the next stage, including GCSE.
At BELingual, our KS3 French programme provides a clear progression while allowing us to adapt teaching to the needs and starting points of the students in each group.

The aim of KS3 is to help students become increasingly confident and independent French communicator
Students gradually develop their ability to:

The goal is not simply to know more French.
It is to become increasingly confident at using the French they know.
📈 A clear KS3 French journey
KS3 is a gradual progression.
Students don't need to produce sophisticated French from the beginning. Instead, they build their language step by step.
Hear it → Understand it → Say it → Develop it → Use it independently
For example, a student might begin with:
J'aime le tennis.
Then learn to extend the idea:
J'aime le tennis parce que c'est amusant.
And eventually develop a more detailed response:
Je préfère jouer au tennis parce que c'est amusant et je peux faire du sport avec mes amis.
The important development is not simply learning more words.
It is learning to combine, adapt and manipulate language to communicate increasingly complex ideas.

KS3 is a gradual progression.
As students progress through KS3, they work towards being able to:

Grammar is an important part of KS3 French.
But students don't simply learn grammar rules in isolation. Grammar is taught so that students can use it to communicate more accurately and confidently. Across the KS3 programme, students develop their understanding of:

Grammar is regularly revisited and applied so that students gradually become more accurate and independent.

One of the important steps during KS3 is learning to communicate across different time frames.
Present
Talking about what they do, what they like and their everyday lives.
Past
Talking about what they did, what happened and their experiences.
Future
Talking about plans, intentions, ambitions and what they are going to do.
As students progress, they learn to combine different time frames rather than simply reproduce memorised sentences. This provides an important foundation for the increasingly independent language required at GCSE.
🔤 Phonics & pronunciation
Good pronunciation starts with understanding how French sounds work.
Throughout KS3, students continue to develop their awareness of:

✓ Pronunciation of familiar and unfamiliar words
✓ Reading French aloud
Regular pronunciation practice helps students become more confident when speaking and when encountering unfamiliar vocabulary.

Group tuition is charged per term according to the number of scheduled lessons. Your child's place is reserved for the full term.
There is no annual BELingual registration fee for new students.
