Our KS1 French programme gives young children the opportunity to discover French, enjoy communicating in another language and build strong foundations for the years ahead.
Rather than teaching to a particular school year, KS1 French is a progression programme. Children develop their skills at an appropriate pace as they move through the programme, building confidence and increasing what they can understand and say over time.
Through songs, games, stories, roleplay, speaking activities and carefully planned language progression, children begin to hear, understand and use real French from their first lessons.

Our lessons combine a variety of activities so that children hear, recognise and use French repeatedly, while continuing to develop new skills.

A progression programme — not a single level
Children don't all learn at exactly the same pace. Our KS1 programme is designed so that learners can build their French progressively, revisiting familiar language while gradually adding new vocabulary, structures and skills.

Children build vocabulary around themselves, their family, body, home and familiar people.

Children learn to name and describe familiar animals and objects using colours and simple descriptive language.

Children develop their number knowledge and begin talking about birthdays, months and simple dates.
