📘 What Is GCSE English Language?


GCSE English Language focuses on your ability to:

  • Read and understand a variety of texts.
  • Write clearly, effectively, and creatively.
  • Use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Analyse how writers use language to influence readers.
  • Develop spoken communication skills (through a separate endorsement).
     

📚 What You'll Learn


Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing

  • Section A: Reading Fiction
    • Analyse language, structure, and the writer’s intent.
    • Develop inference skills and understanding of tone, mood, and setting.
  • Section B: Descriptive or Narrative Writing
    • Learn how to build atmosphere, use imagery, and structure compelling stories.
       

Paper 2: Writers’ Viewpoints and Perspectives

  • Section A: Reading Non-fiction
    • Compare texts from different time periods.
    • Understand persuasive techniques and rhetorical devices.
  • Section B: Writing to Argue or Persuade
    • Develop a clear, engaging viewpoint.
    • Use rhetorical strategies effectively.

  • Understanding implicit and explicit meanings in texts.
  • How to approach unseen extracts with confidence.
  • Writing in a variety of forms: letters, articles, speeches, and narratives.
