GCSE FRENCH CLASS

For secondary school students, we offer small group classes for KS3 and KS4 students between the ages of 13 - 16 years of age to help them prepare for their GCSE French exams.  You can join us either in person or online. The program we offer is based on the English Curriculum as our children will be taking their exams here in England. We follow the GCSE French specification which is divided into 3 main subject areas called themes as below. Each theme is divided into 4 sub-topics to study. The exam is divided into 4 language skills papers as listed below. GCSE sessions are £20 per hour. Book now to benefit of 50% off your first lesson.  You can join us in person or online.

what are the 4 GCSE FRENCH ASSESSMENT OBJECTIVES?

Paper 1: AQA GCSE French Listening

The AQA GCSE French Listening exam is assessing your understanding and responding to different types of spoken language in a variety of topics and tenses. It is assessed in the following way: 


  • Written exam: 40 minutes for the Foundation Tier and 50 minutes for the Higher Tier
  • 40 marks for the Foundation Tier and 50 marks for the Higher Tier
  • 25%  so a quarter of your overall AQA GCSE French grade


Questions - Foundation Tier and Higher Tier

  1. Section A – questions in English, to be answered in English or non-verbally
  2. Section B – question in French, to be answered in French or non-verbally

Paper 2: AQA GCSE French Speaking

In the AQA GCSE French Speaking exam, the examiner will be assessing your communicate and interact effectively in speech for a variety of purposes. It is assessed in the following way: 


  • 60 marks for each of Foundation Tier and Higher Tier
  • 25% so a quarter of your overall AQA GCSE French grade


The format is the same at Foundation Tier and Higher Tier, but with different stimulus questions for the Photo card and different stimulus materials for the Role-play. The teachers conduct and records the speaking exam for external examiners to mark:


1) Role-play – 15 marks. 

2) Photo card – 15 marks. 

3) General conversation – 30 marks. 

Paper 3: AQA GCSE French Reading

The AQA GCSE French Reading exam is assessing your understanding and responding to different types of written language. 


Questions: Foundation Tier and Higher Tier

  1. Section A – the questions are in English and need to be answered in English or non-verbally
  2. Section B – the questions are in French and need to be answered in French or non-verbally
  3. Section C – the translation is from French into English 

Paper 4: AQA GCSE French Writing

The AQA GCSE French writing exam is assessing your communicating effectively in writing for a variety of purposes.


Questions - Foundation Tier

  1. Question 1 – student produces four sentences in response to a photo
  2. Question 2 – student writes a piece of continuous text in response to four brief bullet points
  3. Question 3 – translation from English into French 
  4. Question 4 – structured writing task 


Higher Tier

  1. Question 1 – structured writing task 
  2. Question 2 – open-ended writing task 
  3. Question 3 – translation from English into French
